Thoughts on Work Life!

Staring at a bare space, the first page of a blank word document and wondering what my very first blog should be about, is fairly terrifying!

I have so many thoughts about this whole issue of work-family balance, and the role of women in the workplace, at home, and in our societies. Some things have changed quite radically. Perceptions of what a woman’s role is in their own minds, and in the family, and at the workplace are now quite different. And yet, in many ways, nothing has changed.

The brouhaha over the article Anne Marie Slaughter wrote in the Atlantic Monthly �that women still can’t have it all�, the �rejoinder� Cheryl Sandberg gave with her book, Lean In, and the media attention Marissa Meyer of Yahoo earned by banning the work from home option at Yahoo, make conflicts and constraints that profoundly impact women everywhere in the world, appear to be something of a Western issue. There is clearly a need for voices from other parts of the globe to be heard.

I believe there has never been a time, when there has been so great an understanding, that all of us will benefit from a more equitable society. That empowering women is not only good for them , it is also in the interest of men, and of children.
